Who won the Illinois primary election? Here’s the latest results

It was an eventful night in Illinois politics, with five Congressional seats, a U.S. Senate seat and the comptroller’s office up for grabs in primary elections.

Nominees have been decided in most of those races, though the comptroller’s nomination in the Democratic Party remains undecided.

Here’s a recap of the biggest races of the night.

U.S. Senate

The race to replace Sen. Dick Durbin now has its nominees, according to NBC News.

Illinois Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton bested Reps. Raja Krishnamoorthi and Robin Kelly in the primary election, securing more than 460,000 ballots, according to NBC News.

She will face former Illinois Republican Party head Don Tracy, who defeated Jeannie Evans and Casey Chlebek, according to NBC News projections.

Illinois Governor

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker ran unopposed in the Democratic primary, but the Republican primary featured plenty of intrigue.

According to NBC News projections, we will see a rematch of the 2022 election, as former State Sen. Darren Bailey bested former Wirepoints CEO Ted Dabrowski.

Illinois Attorney General

Incumbent Democratic Attorney General Kwame Raoul and Republican challenger Bob Fioretti both ran unopposed in the primary.

Illinois Secretary of State

Diane Harris secured the Republican Party’s nomination, NBC News projects, and she will face incumbent Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias.

Illinois Treasurer

Incumbent Treasurer Michael Frerichs ran unopposed, and there was no Republican candidate on the ballot for the primary.

Illinois Comptroller

As of 11 p.m., the Democratic primary in the comptroller’s race was too close to call. With 97% of precincts reporting, State Rep. Margaret Croke held a lead of just under 25,000 votes over State Sen. Karina Villa.

Bryan Drew ran unopposed in the Republican primary.

NOTE: Illinois’ 3^rd District, 4^th District, 12^th District, and 16^th District all featured both primaries with candidates running unopposed.

Illinois House-1

Incumbent Democratic Rep. Jonathan Jackson ran unopposed in his race. He will face Republican challenger Christian Maxwell in November, NBC News projects.

Illinois House-2

In the race to replace Rep. Robin Kelly, Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller is projected to defeat former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. in the Democratic primary.

Donna Miller won the Democratic nomination in Illinois’ 2nd District Congressional race, defeating Rev. Jesse Jackson Jr. Rose Schmidt reports.

Miller is expected to face Michael Noack, who ran unopposed in the Republican primary.

Illinois House-5

Incumbent Rep. Mike Quigley won his primary, and he is expected to face Tommy Hanson in the November election, NBC News projects.

Illinois House-6

Incumbent Rep. Sean Casten won the Democratic primary in his district, and he’s set for a rematch with 2024 opponent Niki Conforti, NBC News projects.

Illinois House-7

Illinois State Rep. La Shawn Ford defeated Chicago City Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin in the Democratic primary, NBC News projects.

Ford, who will aim to replace retiring Rep. Danny Davis, will face Chad Koppie, according to NBC News.

Illinois House-8

Former Rep. Melissa Bean fended off a challenge from Junaid Ahmed in the Democratic primary to replace Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, NBC News projects.

Bean is expected to face Jennifer Davis in the November election.

Illinois House-9

In a hotly-contested Democratic primary, Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss will defeat journalist Kat Abughazaleh in the 9^th District, NBC News projects.

Biss, who was endorsed by retiring Rep. Jan Schakowsky, is expected to face John Elleson in the November election.

Illinois House-10

Incumbent Democratic Rep. Brad Schneider won his primary over Morgan Coghill, while Carl Lambrecht ran unopposed in the Republican primary.

Illinois House-11

Republican candidate Jeff Walter is projected to win the party’s primary, and he will face incumbent Rep. Bill Foster in November, NBC News projects.

Illinois House-13

Incumbent Democratic Rep. Nikki Budzinski defeated Dylan Blaha in the party’s primary, while Republican Jeff Wilson will win the GOP primary, NBC News projects.

Illinois House-14

Incumbent Rep. Lauren Underwood will face a 2024 rematch in her election, as James Marter is projected to win the Republican nomination, according to NBC News.

Illinois House-15

Incumbent Republican Rep. Mary Miller fended off two primary challengers, and she is expected to face Democratic candidate Jennifer Todd, NBC News projects.

Illinois House-17

Incumbent Democratic Rep. Eric Sorensen is expected to face Dillan Vancil in the November election, NBC News projects.
