An 84-year-old woman died following a house fire in the Logan Square neighborhood on Chicago’s Northwest Side early Sunday morning, authorities said.
The fire was reported at around 1:36 a.m. in the 2500 block of North Bernard Street near West Altgeld Street. According to police, the Chicago Fire Department extinguished the fire and discovered an 84-year-old woman, who was unresponsive, inside the home.
She was taken to Stroger Hospital and later pronounced dead.
Video captured by an NBC Chicago photographer showed extensive damage near a second-story window. However, the extent of the damage and where the fire originated remained unclear.
No one else was injured.
The Chicago Fire Department was conducting an investigation.
