A police pursuit that ended in a crash on I-94 and two suspects taken into custody prompted traffic and delays of up to an hour on Saturday morning, authorities said.
Around 7:33 a.m., Illinois State Police troopers located a vehicle driving southbound on I-94 near West 75th Street that was wanted after an aggravated vehicular hijacking in Cicero a couple hours prior, authorities said. Troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop and the driver of the vehicle fled, prompting a pursuit.
The driver of the suspect vehicle crashed into another car on southbound I-94 near 130th Street, authorities said. Two people fled from the suspect vehicle but were later taken into custody.
One occupant from the vehicle that was struck was taken to a local hospital with injuries. Authorities did not specify their condition.
Traffic on southbound I-94 was backed up to 115th Street from the crash near 130th as of 9 a.m., according to Total Traffic.
Delays of up to 1 hour were expected on southbound I-94, and the crash was also impacting northbound traffic as vehicles slowed to look at the crash, according to Total Traffic. Delays of roughly 10 minutes were expected between Dolton Avenue and 130th Street on northbound I-94.
