Fatal crash closes lanes on Interstate 55 near Joliet, state police say

Illinois State Police are investigating after a fatal multi-vehicle crash near suburban Joliet overnight.

According to authorities, the crash occurred in the southbound lanes of the highway near Black Road in Joliet at approximately 5:12 a.m.

While details of the crash are still being investigated, at least one person died as a result of that crash, with traffic diverted off the roadway at U.S. Route 30 in Shorewood, according to authorities.

Shorewood police also assisted with traffic control on a nearby frontage road impacted by the crash, according to Illinois State Police.

No further information was immediately available, and the investigation remains underway.
