A 46-year-old man has been charged with the first-degree murder of his father in south suburban Orland Park, police said Friday.
Ibrahim Kassem was charged in connection with the death of Samir Kassem, who died Wednesday evening. According to Orland Park police, at around 6:31 p.m., officers responded to the 14100 block of Concord Drive to assist an ambulance and encountered 77-year-old Samir Kassem, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said officers “quickly developed” information that indicated Ibrahim Kassem was a person of interest in his father’s death and took him into custody a short time later. Investigators worked with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office to gather evidence connecting Ibrahim Kassem to the alleged crime.
Authorities haven’t specified what evidence linked Ibrahim Kassem to his father’s death. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office subsequently approved first-degree murder charges.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said Samir Kassem died from multiple injuries due to an assault, and his death was ruled a homicide.
Ibrahim Kassem was set to make his first appearance in Cook County court on Saturday.
