A person was hospitalized Wednesday morning after they were shot by a San Diego County Sheriff’s deputy in East County, according to law enforcement.
The shooting occurred at around 10:30 a.m. in the 9200 block of Briette Place in Lakeside, just north of Interstate 8 and west of Lake Jennings Park Road.
The extent of the person’s injuries is not yet known; the deputy was uninjured in the incident. A spokesperson for the sheriff’s department told NBC 7 that the injuries are not expected to be fatal.
Two hours after the shooting a few patrol cars were still visible in the residential neighborhood, and law enforcement officials could be seen taking the caution tape.
It’s not clear yet what led to the shooting.
The San Diego Police Department will be investigating the shooting per a cross-departmental memorandum of understanding.
