Authorities have publicly identified a 92-year-old man who was found unconscious in his smoke-filled La Jolla home last week during a fire and was pronounced dead a short time later at a hospital.
La Jolla Shores Drive resident Trung Tran was discovered passed out in his burning residence at about 9 a.m. Friday, according to the county Medical Examiner’s Office and San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. It took firefighters roughly 20 minutes to extinguish the blaze.
Paramedics took Tran to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. A ruling on the cause of his death remains on hold pending completion of postmortem examinations and analysis.
