Caltrans is warning drivers that all southbound lanes of a portion of the Interstate 805 will be closed starting on Friday.
The closure will begin at 9 p.m. at the Interstate 5 split and end at the Governor Drive exit. All entrances and exits into the I-805 will be closed at Nobel Drive.
The portion of the freeway is expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, April 20.
Alternate routes to reach southbound I-805 will be available via the I-5, SR-52, and I-8 connectors.
Caltrans says crews will be conducting culvert replacement underneath the freeway, pavement upgrades and roadside safety enhancements.
The upgrades are part of a $53.7 million State Highway Operation Protection Program project, with $47.6 million from Federal funds and the remaining $6.1 million from State funds.
The closure will not affect bus service nor trolley service in the area.
