El Cajon is considering a new approach to try to get drivers to slow down. It comes after new data shows a pattern of dangerous crashes on a handful of busy streets.
El Cajon leaders and residents gathered for a town hall meeting on Tuesday night to discuss a pilot program that would install four automated warning systems with cameras or sensors.
Drivers caught going more than 20 miles per hour over the speed limit would get a written warning.
NBC 7 spoke to neighbors who said this is a step in the right direction.
“People are always going extremely fast. I used to walk my dog down this way and I don’t walk down this street now just because it’s so dangerous,” El Cajon driver Dan Cota said.
The camera system is expected to be up and running in the next six weeks.
