Locals who may recall with sadness the day back in January 2023 when the home-goods destination Bed Bath & Beyond announced it was shuttering its two San Diego locations will likely find some retail therapy in Thursday’s announcement by the chain that returning to America’s Finest City, at least in part.
In an announcement that weirdly echoes Wednesday’s news that Party City was back, but only as an embed in Staples stores, BB&B’s are finding new homes inside dozens of Container Stores around the country. So, when San Diegans need towels, totes or select tools, they can head over to The Container Store in the Fashion Valley mall complex, just to the southeast of PF Chang’s.
“The Container Store [on Thursday] announced the launch of a chainwide ‘Store Changing’ event beginning Friday, April 24, as 98 stores nationwide begin resetting selling floors to prepare for the phased integration of Bed Bath & Beyond products,” company officials said in a news release issued Thursday.
The Container Store will liquidate about 30% of “select categories” to make room for new Bed Bath & Beyond items, which will be on-sale in May.
“By streamlining select categories today, we’re creating the space and flexibility needed to introduce Bed Bath & Beyond products and deliver a more complete home experience for our customers,” Jen Pape, senior VP of Stores at The Container Store, said in the news release.
