Rob Reiner and his wife were found dead Sunday afternoon inside their Brentwood home, a source close to the Reiner family told NBC News.
The LA Fire Department said a man and a woman were found deceased inside, approximately 78 and 68 years old, around 3:30 p.m. A source close to Reiner has confirmed to NBC News that Reiner and his wife were the pair that was found dead inside the mansion with apparent stab wounds.
The LAPD said in a brief statement that two people were found deceased inside the home, and detectives from the Robbery Homicide Division were handling the case.
“At this time, no further details are available as this is an ongoing RHD investigation, into an apparent homicide,” the statement said.
There is a very large police presence at the home on Sunday evening.
LAPD officers were dispatched to the home shortly after paramedics for a report of an, “ambulance death investigation,” which is LAPD terminology when officers are called by firefighters to the discovery of a death.
“Personally, I am heartbroken by the tragic loss of Rob and his wife Michele. I knew Rob and have tremendous respect for him. Among his numerous contributions, Rob helped create First 5 California, a landmark initiative funded by a tobacco tax to support early childhood development programs. He and Michele fought for early childhood development and marriage equality, working to overturn Proposition 8. They were true champions for LGBTQ+ rights,” wrote Mayor Karen Bass in a statement.
Neighbors said Reiner and his wife live in the home, and property records indicate they own the home. The LAPD statement said it was the Reiners’ home.
Reiner is an Oscar-nominated filmmaker and actor known for his films “This Is Spinal Tap,” “A Few Good Men,” and “When Harry Met Sally.”
Reiner and his wife, Michele, got married in 1989 and have three children together, Jake, Nick, and Romy.
