Plans are in the works for race cars to zoom along the National Mall.
The U.S. Department of Transportation issued a statement on a Grand Prix proposal for D.C.
“The Grand Prix is an unprecedented opportunity to celebrate our nation’s proud racing pedigree, showcase the beauty of the National Mall, and generate millions in critical tourism revenue for the Capital,” a statement to NBC News said.
“The Trump Administration is determined to make D.C. great again, and this race is another example of that commitment. We’ll keep working with our partners in Congress to outline the positive impacts it will have on the District and correct the record,” it said.
The race, proposed for Aug. 21 as part of America250 events, would start at the Supreme Court and cover a lap around the National Mall, Punchbowl News reported. One big caveat: The race would need congressional approval because of a ban on advertising on Capitol grounds, the outlet reported.
The Commanders revealed the first designs for the team’s stadium planned in D.C.
