What to Know
- Most main and secondary roads have been cleared after the winter storm, but on day three of the dig-out, officials across the D.C. area say plows are still trying to get to some neighborhoods.
- Many schools are closed again today, but you can check with your district about meal distributions.
- Metro service is getting closer to normal. Trains are running every 10 to 20 minutes, 87 bus routes are in service and MetroAccess will operate all trips, Metro said.
- Federal workers are expected to return to offices today on a one-hour delay.
- Millions of people in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties are urged to limit water use after numerous water main breaks and leaks, in hopes of avoiding a boil water advisory. Currently, the water is safe, WSSC said.
- Frigid cold has a firm grip on the D.C. area, and Storm Team4 is tracking the potential for more snow this weekend.
Across the D.C. area, crews and residents are spending a third day trying to dig out from Sunday’s winter storm.
Travel may be tricky: Even passable streets are lined by piles of hard-packed snow and ice. In some neighborhoods, recovery has barely begun.
“I feel helpless,” one Prince George’s County resident said.
