A man is facing a criminal charge after a boy fired a gun inside a Maryland elementary school classroom, injuring his hand, police say.
Eashan John Stefanski, 34, was charged with leaving a loaded firearm accessible to a minor, Anne Arundel County police said on Thursday. Stefanski is from Pasadena, Maryland.
Investigators said a boy brought a gun from Stefanski’s home to Freetown Elementary School in Glen Burnie Wednesday morning.
The boy’s hand was hurt when the gun went off in a classroom just before 8:30 a.m., police said. A teacher then took the weapon, began giving aid to the boy and told school administrators, who called police, authorities said.
None of the other students in the classroom were hurt.
Medics took the boy to a hospital. He has a non-life threatening injury, police said.
Authorities didn’t say whether or not Stefanski is related to the boy.
Detectives asked anyone with information that could help in the investigation to call 410-222-6135 or give an anonymous tip at 410-222-4700.
