A man found dead in a condo near D.C.’s Logan Circle was tied up and had been burned, police said as they try to identify his killer.
Sayed Hammad Hussein was the victim, the Metropolitan Police Department said. He was 40.
A 911 call for smoke in the hallway of The Zenith, in the 1400 block of Rhode Island Avenue NW, led to a grim discovery. DC Fire and EMS radio transmissions at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday make clear that first responders quickly realized the emergency was bigger than just smoke on the first floor.
“Confirmed body. We’re going to need PD,” a man said.
The incident report for the crime notes the victim was found in his home “taped or tied up.” In a statement, police said he suffered blunt force trauma and burn injuries.
Security cameras from a neighboring building captured images now in the possession of investigators, sources familiar with the investigation told News4.
They are described as showing the victim entering the building with three other people, one of whom may have been a woman, not long before the fire.
The same three people were later seen running from the victim’s building.
A neighbor said he saw a half-dozen police cars and about five fire trucks outside.
Detectives continue to search for information and security video in the neighborhood.
