4 things to know about the weather:
- From Fog To Sun Today
- Super Nice Saturday
- Mon PM – Tue AM Snow Chance
- Much Warmer Late Next Week
Much like last weekend, Saturday will be far and away the better day to spend time outside. Sunday will also be dry, but it will be blustery and turning much colder in advance of what should be one of our last chances for snow this season.
After the light rain on Thursday, the skies have been clearing out overnight, leaving pockets of very thick fog. The residual clouds and fog will last several hours past sunrise.
Our skies will be brightening by noon and your Friday afternoon will be sunny and pleasant with highs climbing into the 50s.
The clear sky will allow for a quick cooling off after sunset. Most areas will be close to freezing by Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon will be sunny and mild with highs in the 60s for everywhere except northernmost Maryland.
If D.C. makes it to 64°, it will make the final day of meteorological winter the warmest of the season.
Back to wintry weather on Sunday
Sunday, the first day of March and meteorological spring, will be our transition back to winter for a few days.
A cold front will arrive Sunday morning, followed by a cold and blustery northwest wind. Areas from D.C. southward should still make a run into the low-50s, but northern Maryland and northwest Virginia probably won’t get above 45°.
The front will also bring additional cloud cover back into the area and could wring out a few drops of rain.
Dry conditions will return from Sunday afternoon into midday Monday as temperatures really take a tumble. We’ll be in the mid- to upper 20s by Monday morning. Temperatures on Monday afternoon may just barely get above freezing as a storm brings moisture in from the West.
Rain and snow chances return Monday night
A cold rain is likely by Monday evening, and there will be a risk of wet snow Monday night into Tuesday morning. This still looks like a “sweepable” or “nuisance” level amount of snow at the most. Less than 3 inches. That could still impact schools and road conditions, so we will have to monitor this storm carefully over the next few days.
The precipitation should change to all rain as temperatures hover near 38° during the daylight hours of Tuesday. Tuesday night will also need to be watched, but it does look like milder air will begin to move in and (hopefully) keep everything just rain.
All the precipitation will end on Wednesday morning and we should be near 50° Wednesday afternoon.
There are still signs that the weekend after this one will have temperatures between 65-70° both days.
