4 things to know about the weather:
- Best day of the week Tuesday
- Rain late Wednesday, Thursday
- Nice enough Friday, Saturday
- Much colder next week
Quite the clash of seasons is coming our way between now and the end of next week.
The warmest days by far will be Tuesday and Wednesday when daily records will be challenged or broken. The record for both days in D.C. is 79°.
Tuesday will come with an abundance of sunshine, making it a perfect preview of what late May will feel like. Southwest winds will hold overnight lows near 60° which is above our average high.
That mild start will allow temperatures to approach 80° again Wednesday but thickening clouds and increasing rain chances might make the difference.
Wednesday will also be our first touch of humidity as dew points will climb into the 60s. That would be a treat in July but it’s humid in March. Warm and humid conditions will lead to scattered showers and the possibility of thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon. That first chances for rain will end at sunset but rain will return after midnight with the arrival of a strong cold front. Temperatures will still be near 70° at midnight!

Rain is coming with a drop in temperatures
Rain and gusty northwest winds will drop temperatures into the upper 50s for the Thursday morning commute and into the mid-40s by early afternoon.
The rain is expected to end before 6 p.m. and temperatures will fall into the low to mid-30s by Friday morning. With a powerful storm passing to our north on Friday, our wind will whip back around to the southwest and could gust over 40 mph Friday afternoon with temperatures back in the low to mid-50s.
Saturday will be the better half of the weekend with dry conditions, light winds and highs in the mid-50s. Gusty south winds will return on Sunday and rain chances will arrive by late afternoon to early evening.
Rain Sunday night and Monday will be followed by a very cold Tuesday and Wednesday where highs are likely to stay below 40° with hard freezes overnight.
