An 18-year-old man is dead and four others are hurt after a gunfire erupted on a basketball court in Dumfries, Virginia, Monday evening, police say.
Prince William County police said some people were playing basketball at the courts on Potomac Shores Parkway when another group showed up. There was a confrontation between the two groups before the shooting, police said.
Officers who got there just after 5:30 p.m. found one person suffering from a gunshot wound at the court before finding another person at a nearby home on Spring Cress Drive, police said. Three other people who were shot took themselves to hospitals in the area.
An 18-year-old man from Dumfries died from his injuries at a hospital, police said.
A 16-year-old boy, two 17-year-old boys and a 20-year-old man were also hurt, police said. They are all expected to recover, according to authorities.
Investigators are still sorting through how each person was involved and what led up to the deadly shooting.
