Investigators are searching for a 19-year-old man in connection to a shooting that killed another young man and injured four others earlier this week at a basketball court in Dumfries, Virginia, and police say one of the injured teens was arrested for his alleged involvement.
J’Shaun Zomari Williams, of Gainesville, is wanted on murder and firearms charges in the shooting that killed 18-year-old Louis Anthony Boone Monday evening, Prince William County police said in an update Wednesday.
The police department released this photo of Williams and said he’s 6’1″ and 175 pounds.
There was a confrontation between the two groups before the shooting at the basketball courts on Potomac Shores Parkway about 5:30 p.m. Monday, police said.
Boone, of Dumfries, died from his injuries at a hospital, police said.
A 16-year-old boy, two 17-year-old boys and a 20-year-old man were also hurt, police said. They were all expected to recover, authorities said.
One of the 17-year-olds was arrested Tuesday after he was released from the hospital, police said. He faces felony homicide and firearms charges. The teen, who is from Woodbridge, is in custody at the juvenile detention center.
The violent incident is unusual for the affluent Potomac Shores community that sits alongside the river.
“I was very surprised that it, that it happened because, you know, normally we don’t get stuff like that around here. It’s a really good neighborhood,” resident Bryan Helarre told News4.
Police are asking anyone with information to call 703-792-6500 or submit a tip online.
