WEATHER ALERT: Monday is anticipated to be an active weather day with strong and severe storms that could bring various impacts to the DMV.
Showers will be scattered tonight into Monday morning. There could be a rumble of thunder during the first half of the day, but the severe weather threat will come during the afternoon and into the evening as a cold front marches from the west to the east.
The storms will likely form a line, and in the line of storms could be heavy rain, damaging wind gusts, tornadoes, and hail.
The wind damage from severe thunderstorms tomorrow could be significant. Wind gusts could reach over 70 mph, producing considerable damage.
The storm timing for D.C. will likely be around the evening commute, and heavy rain could be blinding, along with making the roads slippery.

Maryland Gov. Moore has declared has declared a state of preparedness, urging residents to make plans ahead of time and have an emergency kit, heed all warnings and have all family members stay indoors, including pets.
The cold front crosses Monday night, and temperatures will rapidly drop. Cold air could help to produce a few quick snow showers. After some swift flurries for some, precipitation and clouds will clear. Tuesday will have a mix of sun and clouds with below average temperatures. Wind chills will be in the 20s in the morning, and lower 30s in the afternoon. Gusts will be strong at 25 mph.
School schedule changes
Multiple school districts have announced early dismissals.
Prince George’s County, Charles County and Anne Arundel County will dismiss two hours early and Fairfax County will dismiss three hours early. Montgomery County schools will dismiss early, too, but specific times differ for each school.
You can find more details for each school district on their websites.
