4 things to know about the weather:
- Records likely Thursday, Saturday
- A bit cooler Friday
- Chilly, rainy Sunday
- Some 30s Tuesday morning
All three of our major airports set new record highs Wednesday and are expected to do so again Thursday and maybe Saturday too.
Skies will be a bit more cloudy Thursday and there will be a small chance for a passing shower or two from late Thursday evening until early Friday morning.
Southwest winds Thursday will become northwest on Friday and that will help to hold temperatures down somewhat. Friday will be only about 15° above average whereas Thursday will be more like 25° above average.
Saturday will be a bit more tricky of a temperature forecast as the wind turns back to the south and southeast ahead of a strong cold front that will arrive first thing Sunday morning. The D.C. metro area and much of the I-95 corridor are likely to be near 90° Saturday while a Bay breeze could keep Annapolis and much of the Western Shore in the 60s.

Rain and cooler weather starts off next week
Dry weather will last until around sunset Saturday but rain chances will increase quickly after dark. The entire area will be in the 50s with rain Sunday morning. Rainfall near 1/2” is expected with this Sunday storm along with blustery northwest winds.
The majority of the rain will be over by 2 p.m. but some lingering showers will be possible. Highs on Sunday will occur just after midnight. As the rain ends Sunday afternoon, most of the area will get back to around 60°.
Monday will feel like March again: sunny skies and a chilly northwest wind keeping temperatures in the mid- to upper 50s. By Tuesday morning, most areas north and west of Dulles Airport will be in the mid- to upper 30s while D.C. will be in the low to mid-40s.
Expect mid-60s and sunny skieson Tuesday and back into the 70s with a rain chance on Wednesday. A much cooler and unsettled pattern looks to be coming by the end of next week so those of you who are enjoying this heat wave need to make the most of it while it’s here.
