4 things to know about the weather:
- A Bit Cooler Friday
- Warm, Dry Saturday
- Chilly, Rainy Sunday
- Some 30s Tuesday Morning
High heat is starting to let up, and the D.C. area will be back to chilly temperatures within days.
A quick line of showers overnight was a weak cold front coming through the area. The rain is already gone, and sunshine will return later Friday morning.
Friday afternoon will still be 10-15° warmer than average, but we will NOT be making a third run into the 90s.
Plan for the low-80s around D.C. on Friday.
Clear skies Friday night will allow for a comfortable start, in the 50s to around 60°, Saturday morning. Clouds will gradually increase later in the afternoon, but not before temperatures once again jump into the mid- to upper 80s.
Rain on Sunday and much cooler temps
Rain is still expected to arrive before sunrise on Sunday and should linger into the early afternoon. Rain totals of 1/4” to 1/2” seem most likely.
After this stretch of summer weather, Sunday afternoon’s mid-50s will feel especially cold. Cloudy skies and blustery northwest winds will add to the mid-March feel.
The sun returns on Monday morning with start-off temperatures in the 40s and afternoon highs only reaching the upper-50s.
Monday night into Tuesday morning will see many areas dropping into the mid-30s. As of now, it appears that the wind will stay up overnight and limit the risk of frost on Tuesday morning.
We’ll keep a close watch on that since so many plants have sprung to life in this warm pattern.
We’re likely to be back near 80° by Wednesday and Thursday of next week before a cooler and (hopefully) rainier pattern returns.
