Eleven people were injured after a work vehicle collided with a Silver Line Metro train early Wednesday morning, according to Metro officials.
Just after midnight, the last Silver Line train of the day was stationary on the tracks at the Metro Center station when a work vehicle collided with the train’s rear. There were 27 riders on the train, according to Metro.
D.C. emergency officials were on the scene to help with injuries. All 11 riders say they have non-life-threatening injuries, according to Metro. Riders who weren’t injured got on another train to continue towards Downtown Largo. No Metro staff were seriously hurt.
Metro says to expect significant delays on the Orange and Blue lines in both directions as trains single track between McPherson Square and Smithsonian stations.
Silver Line trains are only operating between Ashburn and Clarendon. Officials advise riders to use the Orange Line to continue towards New Carrolton and Downtown Largo stations.
Metro is investigating the incident.
