4 things to know about the weather:
- Few drops possible Tuesday
- Steady rain later Wednesday
- More showers Saturday
- Cooler pattern here to stay
The cooler pattern, which arrived on Saturday, is expected to remain in control of our weather for at least the next 10 to 14 days. Thankfully, this pattern will also continue to deliver needed rain chances into our parched region.
For the month of April, and since spring began in March, it has been one of the warmest and driest on record. Since March 1, D.C. had recorded 28 days 70° or higher (third most on record) and 15 days 80° or higher (most on record). April has only had half of its April rainfall and that level of dryness stretches back through March.
So clouds have moved in overnight and there’s a chance to get at least a few periods of light rain and sprinkles from first thing Tuesday morning until early Tuesday afternoon. Rain totals Tuesday will be nominal but the clouds will keep afternoon highs in the mid-60s.

The clouds will break up Tuesday evening and we’ll be cool and dry into Wednesday morning. Rain will arrive by mid-morning Wednesday and last until mid- to late evening with most of the area getting at least 1/4” of rain and some lucky spots perhaps getting nearly a full inch.
High pressure from Canada will push a cold front through Wednesday night so the sunshine will return first thing on Thursday morning. Thursday will be sunny, breezy and cool. High will only reach the mid-60s but strong, late-April sunshine will more than compensate for the coolness in the air.
Temperatures will be in the mid-40s Friday and Saturday morning. Clouds will arrive by midday Friday and there will be a chance for scattered showers from Friday evening into Saturday. Sunshine is back for Sunday and next Monday and Tuesday.
