4 things to know about the weather:
- Breezy, sunshine Thursday
- Remaining cool all weekend
- Saturday sprinkles
- Brief warmer next week
Beggars can’t be choosers so even though Wednesday’s rain fell short of what we needed (or hoped for) the roughly 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch helped some.
Unfortunately, our next chance for a soaking rain is another week away. There’s likely to be some periods of light rain on Saturday but rain totals will not reach 0.10 of an inch unless something changes between now and then.
Clouds Thursday morning will give way to increasing sunshine Thursday afternoon. Gusty northwest winds will keep afternoon highs in the mid-60s which is nearly 10° below average.
The next few mornings all promise to be quite chilly. The current set-up “should” keep our region frost-free, but there will most certainly be a few mornings where the I-81 corridor could get temperatures in the mid- to upper 30s. East of the Blue Ridge and along I-95, lows will only drop into the low to mid-40s.

Cool weekend
After a sunny start, clouds will increase again on Friday afternoon. Clouds will remain quite thick on Saturday as a storm passes well to our south. The track of this storm will be close enough for clouds and coolness, but too far away to send significant rainfall.
Plan for a day spent in the 50s with no sunshine and the risk of a sprinkle or drizzle at just about any time. That storm heads out to sea Saturday night and we will get sunshine back on Sunday.
A cold start and a north wind will limit our daytime warming so highs will only get to around 60°. A short-lived surge of warm air will come back early next week.
Monday looks sunny and near 70° and Tuesday near 80°. A cold front should hopefully arrive next Wednesday bringing a decent rainfall followed by cooler weather once again.
