On the whole, Friday will be nicer than Thursday

After frequent gusts near 40 mph on Thursday, the wind settled down overnight and won’t be an issue again until Sunday and Monday.

Mainly sunny skies Friday morning will turn more and more cloudy for the afternoon and evening. Temperatures will get close to 70°.

A wave of low pressure will pass through the area Friday night. Along with the clouds, there will be some widely scattered showers between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Clouds will remain quite thick all day Saturday, holding afternoon highs to barely reaching 60°. There could be a bit of drizzle in the D.C. metro area at just about any time, but it’s unlikely to have much of an impact on your plans.

Areas to the south and east of D.C. will have a better chance to get a brief period of light rain Saturday as a storm passes across North Carolina and eventually out to sea.

As that storm moves away, our gusty northwest winds will bring back the sun for your Sunday plans. Temperatures will still struggle to get above 60°, but the addition of sunshine will make a big difference in how the day feels.

Sunday night into Monday morning will be quite cold, and there may be a chance of frost in the sheltered valleys and rural areas.

Warmer air early next week will bring the 70s our way on Monday and the 80s on Tuesday. A cold front is likely to bring needed rain our way from Wednesday into Thursday.
