4 things to know about the weather:
- Sunny start this week
- Much warmer Tuesday
- Rain likely Wednesday, Thursday
- Nice for Mother’s Day
An active week of weather ahead of us means that just about every day will have a different feel to it.
Sunny and mild Monday. Feeling like summer Tuesday. Spring showers on Wednesday. Chilly and drizzly, feeling like March on Thursday. Comfortable sunshine returns Friday.
After a bit of cloudiness Monday morning, sunny skies are on tap for Monday afternoon. After nine consecutive days of below-average temperatures, Monday will turn out to be nice and mild. Highs Monday will be at or just above our average high of 74°.
Fair skies Monday night will lead to overnight lows falling into the 50s for the suburbs and low 60s in the urban areas.
A gusty southwest wind Tuesday will bring a touch of summertime warmth back into the area. Highs will jump into the mid-80s and pollen counts will soar once again. Clouds arrive Tuesday night and rain will arrive at some point on Wednesday.

Exactly when on Wednesday remains a bit uncertain and the rain’s arrival will make a big difference on temperatures. Showers arriving before noon, most likely, will keep highs in the low to mid-70s. If the rain waits until mid to late afternoon, a bit less likely, we’re likely to have highs in the 80s. Either way, Wednesday will start dry and end wet.
Cooler air will drain into the area Wednesday night and Thursday will be cloudy, chilly and damp from start to finish. Rain totals will hopefully be around 1/2 of an inch on Wednesday and perhaps another 1/4 of an inch on Thursday.
We still really need the rain. Since March 1, our area has only had about half of our average rainfall. Sunshine will return on Friday.
Most of Mother’s Day weekend will be nice. There’s a small rain chance on Saturday but Sunday looks dry with highs in the mid-70s.
