If you have an emergency anywhere in the region, ChristianaCare’s new helicopter can reach you faster than any other chopper and transport you to a hospital efficiently.
At a hangar in New Castle County, Delaware, on Wednesday, they cut the ribbon on ChristianaCare’s new Airbus H145 D3, a first-of-its-kind.
Collin Hague is one of the four pilots who will be flying this chopper, and he said that, from an aviation standpoint, it outperforms their old choppers.
It has a 400-mile range on a single tank of gas and can reach about 70 million Americans from its base in Delaware.
“We have advanced avionics that allow us to fly in inclement weather and more often than not, we find ourselves in very congested airspace,” said Hague.
NBC10 was told that the advantage of this chopper is that it can get you where you need to go more quickly, more smoothly, and more efficiently, and it’s safer for the patients they’ll place in the back of the helicopter. Officials said it’s better in very busy airspace around major airports.
The team that flies in up front and the medical team in the back have much more room to care for many more patients.
