A disagreement between two men at the Jersey Shore led to one of them punching the other and shots being fired on Monday evening, according to the Atlantic City Police Department.
This all started around 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 5 near the area of the 2400 block of Pacific Avenue in Atlantic City when two men got into a verbal dispute, police said.
During the argument, Collin Forrestel, 43, was allegedly punched in the face by another man, 38 which led to Forrestel allegedly a gun at him, officials reported.
The men each ran away in different directions with Forrestel throwing the gun into a dumpster at a construction site, police said.
Officers were called to the scene after the ShotSpotter system detected gunshots, police said.
As they approached, one officer was stopped by Forrestel who said he had been shot in the face so the officer took him to a nearby hospital, officials explained. It turned out that Forrestel was not hit by gunfire.
The officers said that they were informed of a second man who was shot in the leg and found him on the unit south block of Georgia Avenue before taking him to a nearby hospital.
An investigation into this incident was launched and detectives used nearby security cameras to figure out what happened.
Forrestel was arrested and charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and other related charges. He is being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
