A man crossing the street was badly hurt after getting hit by a car on Monday morning, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.
The crash happened around 8:33 a.m. on Monday, March 9 at the intersection of 5th and Rockland streets in the Olney section of North Philadelphia, police said.
Officials explained that a Nissan Altima was driving eastbound along Rockland Street when it tried to make a right turn onto 5th Street to go southbound.
As it turned, the sedan hit a 60-year-old man who was crossing 5th Street with the green light, police said.
At first, the driver of the Nissan did stop after the crash but then drove away minutes later, officials reported.
Medics took the man to a nearby hospital where he was placed in critical condition, police said.
The vehicle was later found with no one inside on the 4900 block of North 5th Street.
Police describe the suspected driver as a 25 to 30-year-old man.
The Philadelphia Police Department’s Crash Investigation Division is investigating.
