New owners of the Crozer-Chester Medical Center — which shuttered last year when the former ownership group, Prospect Medical Group Holdings, filed for bankruptcy — are looking to bring a primary or urgent care center to the site of the closed medical center.
And, at a meeting held Tuesday night, residents learned the new ownership group, Chariot Allaire, is hoping to do it within the next nine months.
But, as detailed by NBC10’s Lili Zheng, broader plans for a new medical center with hospital capabilities — like an emergency room — at that site could take years to fully unfold.
At a meeting on Tuesday, representatives of the new ownership group said plans for the new site would be developed in stages.
Last year’s closure of the Crozer-Chester Medical Center left Upland residents without a healthcare facility that the community had relied on for decades.
On Tuesday, residents expressed concerns, with some calling for a return of an emergency room at the site and requesting mobile health care units to support the community.
More than 2,600 people lost their jobs when the Crozer-Chester Medical Center shut down and, at the recent meeting, there seemed to be hope that a new medical facility at the site would see healthcare-related job opportunities return.
Still, nothing is yet set in stone.
The ownership group said Tuesday that it hopes to name a new operator for the Crozer-Chester Medical Center site by November.
But, a new health care center with hospital services at that site would not likely open for another two to three years.
