A Delaware County family is turning a viral moment into an opportunity to spread kindness — after a young girl tossed something unexpected into a wishing well.
It happened over the weekend while 5-year-old Palmer Larkin and her family, from Broomall, were camping in Virginia with her grandparents. During a visit to Luray Caverns, they stopped at a wishing well, where Palmer made a memorable decision.
“She just chucked it in,” her mother, Rachel Larkin, said.
Instead of tossing in spare change, Palmer threw her mother’s debit card into the well.
“My dad kind of said something … does she have something behind her back? I don’t know. I turned on my phone and said don’t you dare. And then she threw it,” Larkin said.

When asked why she did it, Palmer had a simple explanation.
“I wanted to give everybody all the wishes they want. Everybody’s wishes. Whatever they want,” Palmer said.
Larkin said the family couldn’t help but laugh.
“We were just hysterical. A part of me was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I can’t believe this happened,’” she said.
Afterward, Larkin posted the video on social media — where it quickly took off, drawing tens of millions of views.
“So many people saw it. Do you know how many people saw it? Like 73,” she joked.
The actual number was much higher — around 27 million views — and not all of the attention was positive.
“There were some comments in there that were like not good … and I was like, man, we have to lighten this up a little. And I said, we need to do some nice things for kids,” Larkin said.
First, she canceled her debit card and got a replacement. Then, inspired by the viral attention, she began granting small wishes for strangers on social media, including a movie night for one family and a healthy meal for another.
“While I have so many eyes on us, I just wanted to do a good deed. Take this viral moment, spread some kindness and happiness and help others,” she said.
What started as a lighthearted mishap is now a growing effort to make a positive impact — proving that even a simple visit to a wishing well can lead to something more meaningful.
