In a move that feels more midwinter than mid-April, Camelback Resort in Pennsylvania is turning the snow guns on once again.
“We’re making snow tonight. On April 20. In Pennsylvania,” Jason Bays, Vice President and General Manager of Camelback Resort, shared a letter to the community.
The announcement comes as Camelback, the largest ski resort in the Poconos, pushes beyond its longest operating season on record, a milestone that dates back to the resort’s opening in 1963.
Rather than winding down for spring, the resort has leaned into the extended season.
“You won’t find us posting about flowers blooming and the last snowflakes melting out on the mountain here,” Bays added.
The decision to resume snowmaking, is rooted in both practical and community-driven reasons.
“Yes, it might sound a little crazy. And yes…we probably are.” Bays acknowledged.
Bays shares that the turnout of visitors have been incredible this spring, and the company is staying committed to the longest season.
Most importantly of all, Bays said, “And honestly…this is just fun for our team, for me, and for this community.”
If you’re not quite ready to hang up your skis or snowboards just yet, you might want to consider checking out Camelback.
“We’re not closing the season. We’re redefining it,” Bays said.
