Police are investigating after a gunman tore the front door of a home off of its hinges before chasing a man through his house and shooting him in the driveway, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.
Officers were called to the 5800 block of Sansom Street in West Philadelphia for reports of neighbors hearing gunshots, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small explained.
When the officers got to the location, they found a 30-year-old man laying in the driveway at the back of a home suffering from several gunshot wounds and struggling to stay conscious, Small said.
The man was shot in both of his arms, his leg and his stomach, according to Small. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was placed in critical condition.
Investigators discovered that the suspected shooter went to the victim’s home and ripped the front door off of its hinges before chasing the victim through the house, Small said.
At one point, the shooter chased the victim out into the back of the house onto the driveway where the suspect fired a gun at least nine times, officials said.
Several of the victim’s family members were inside the house when this all unfolded and they are cooperating with investigators, Small said.
Police do not yet know a motive yet for this shooting and no one has been arrested yet.
