Officials with the Pa. State Police said an investigation is ongoing after a man was killed in a crash involving a tractor-trailer on I-78 in Lower Macungie Township late Thursday.
According to police, the deadly crash happened at about 11:27 p.m. when a 2010 Ford Mustang, operated by a 22-year-old Coopersburg man, collided with a tractor-trailer on I-78 in Lower Macungie Township, in Lehigh County.
Investigators said that in the collision, the Mustang collided with a 2007 Peterbilt 387 tractor-trailer and the driver was killed in the crash.
The 22-year-old man, who police did not immediately provide further identifying information on, was pronounced at the scene at about 12:28 a.m. on Friday morning, officials said.
A 21-year-old woman from Mashpee, Massachusetts, who was a passenger in the Mustang, was treated at the scene and was taken to a nearby hospital, officials said.
Police did not provide additional information on the severity of this woman’s injuries.
A 56-year-old New Holland man, who was behind the wheel of the tractor-trailer, was unharmed, officials said.
During the course of the investigation, officials said, overnight, all traffic during was detoured on eastbound I-78 onto State Route 100 while I-78 westbound traffic remained open.
All I-78 eastbound traffic reopened at 5:45 a.m., police said.
An investigation into this crash is ongoing.
Pennsylvania State Police officials said they are hoping to talk to anyone who may have witnessed this crash. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have dash camera video of the crash is asked to contact the Pa.
