Delaware officials are urging residents not to fall victim to a phone text scam that has popped up this weekend.
According to the State of Delaware Administrative Office of the Courts, a bogus text being sent to residents is falsely informing them that they have an overdue parking or traffic toll.
“The text purports to be from the Justice of the Peace Court and urges victims to scan a QR code to immediately resolve a fictious overdue traffic/toll violation,” officials said. “We want to warn people NOT to download the full text or scan the QR code, and assure them this is not a legitimate text as the JP Court does not issue violation notices by text or email.”
The scam also mirrors a scam that went around Maryland last month, officials said.
