A man, who police suspect was involved in the robberies of at least nine businesses in Wilmington, Delaware was arrested on Wednesday, officials said.
According to police, at about 3 a.m. on Wednesday, officers in the area of 4th and Jackson streets, in Wilmington, Delaware, were following up on an investigation into a string of commercial robberies when they were alerted to a burglary that had just occurred at a business along the 1000 block of West 4th Street.
Following up on this information, officials said, the officers tracked down 50-year-old Jimmie Hayes inside of a vacant property along the 100o block of Read Street in Wilmington, Delaware.
At that time, police took Hayes into custody and, officials said, the officers recovered proceeds from recent thefts that happened at area businesses.
Police allege Hayes was a suspect in thefts that happened recently as businesses located:
- Two businesses along the 1000 block of West 4th Street
- Two businesses along the 1400 block of Lancaster Avenue
- A business on the 100 block of North Lincoln Street
- A business on the 1800 block of West 3rd Street
- A business on the 400 block of North DuPont Street
- A business on the 800 block of North Market Street
- A business on the 300 block of North Union Street
Police said Hayes has been charged with several counts of burglary, theft and related offenses.
He has been arrested and was given $42,000 secured bail for the burglary-related charges, and $10,000 cash-only bail in reference to a violation of probation, police said.
He is in police custody at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution pending future court proceedings.
However, officials said, an investigation into these burglaries remains ongoing.
