A member of the Philadelphia Police Department’s Dirt Bike Unit suffered a serious leg injury after getting hit by a U-Haul on Saturday afternoon, according to Philadelphia Police Inspector DF Pace.
The unidentified officer was riding with other officers at around 4 p.m. in the area of North Broad Street and West Toronto Avenue as they attempted to stop a group of motorcyclists and ATV riders. At some point, a small U-Haul truck drove against the green light and into the officer, Pace said.
The officer suffered lacerations to his leg that require an overnight stay for observation in the hospital, Pace said.
The driver of the U-Haul stayed on the scene and it was unclear if they would face any citations for the incident, Pace said.
