At least eight people were hurt when an MTA bus lost control and crashed into several cars in the Bronx, according to police.
The Bx 6 bus was on E 163rd Street near Cauldwell Avenue around 2 p.m. Monday when the 63-year-old driver applied the emergency brakes and lost control of the bus, police said. It went on to strike several vehicles, occupied and unoccupied, for a few blocks before eventually coming to a halt.
Eight people, including the driver, were hurt with minor injuries, according to police. Some were taken to the nearby hospital, though all were expected to recover.
The windshield the the bus was smashed and the front door in pieces after the crash. One of the vehicles struck was a BMW which, in turn, knocked down a pedestrian traffic light. The bus also hit an SUV, which ended up on the sidewalk with its airbags deployed.
The bus came to a stop four blocks after initially losing control.
It was unclear what caused the woman behind the wheel to apply the emergency brake. An investigation is ongoing.
