2026 Olympics medal count: Which country leads after Day 11 of competition

While the U.S. added two more medals to its tally on Tuesday, it’s looking increasingly difficult to reel in the top spot — and there’s still a gap to catch up to second.

Team USA won two silver medals for day, one in speed skating team pursuit and the other in freestyle skiing big air. But still trail Norway by a sizeable margin, and have yet to be able to close the gap with Italy.

The U.S. looked in prime position to walk away with a gold early in the day, as the men’s team pursuit came final came down to them and the host nation Italy. The U.S. team had previously set a world record in November in the event, so it seemed likely they could take gold in the Olympics.

But the Italians, in front of a raucous crowd, had other ideas. They beat out Americans Ethan Cepuran, Casey Dawson and Emery Lehman to take the gold — and replicated Steph Curry’s ‘night night’ celebration. Team USA settled for silver.

The afternoon brought what may have been the best Olympic freeski big air final ever.

Tormod Frostad of Norway edged out Mac Forehand of the United States by 2.25 points in Tuesday’s final with the scores approaching the maximum of 200 points each. Frostad did so by nailing the nose butter — but with a physics-defying twist of his own — on all three of his jumps of a snowy freeskiing nail-biter on the big hill Tuesday night.

Frostad had the lead through most of the 12-man final after nailing two massive jumps. But Forehand flipped a thrilling competition on its head when he moved ahead of Frostad on the second-to-last jump of the night.

That turned what had been looking like a victory lap for Frostad into the most pressure-filled leap of his career. But the 23-year-old Norwegian pulled out another flawlessly executed effort to secure his first gold medal in his second Games.

Frostad and Forehand both said that they would have been happy with any color of medal after participated in what they agreed was a final for the ages — one frosted by a steady snow that delayed the start of the event, but did nothing to slow down the 12 finalists.

What country has won the most medals so far?

Norway continues to pace all nations, with 31 total medals by the end of Tuesday. It also leads in golds with 14, five more than any other country.

The host nation Italy has had it’s best Winter Olympics performance ever, with five days of competition still to go. The Italians have earned 24 medals, including nine golds.

After picking up two more medals, the U.S. remains third. Team USA has 21 medals, six of which are gold. Rounding out the top five were Germany with 20 (including a podium sweep in two-man bobsled) and Japan with 19.

Who has won medals for Team USA?

The U.S. won their first two medals of the Winter Olympics on Feb. 8, both of which were golds: In the women’s downhill for alpine skiing, and in the team event for figure skating.

Feb. 10 and 11 have proven to be the best for Team USA so far, earning five medals both of those days. Three more were added Saturday, and another two more on both Monday and Tuesday.
