People in Paterson, New Jersey say they feel unsafe, after someone opened fire killing one person and injuring three others. The shooting happened Saturday evening in the area of 10th Ave. and East 29th St.
Paterson officials confirming a 20-year-old man died as a result of the shooting. On Sunday, police cruisers could still be seen in the neighborhood.
“The neighborhood needs to be more secure. So, people feel unsafe right now,” a neighbor who identified himself as “Jose” told NBC New York.
New video obtained by News 4 shows paramedics assiting an injured person on the ground.
“As you see, nobody’s outside. Everybody’s like pretty much hiding inside the house right now because the neighborhood is not safe,” said Jose.
Another video picks up the sound of the gunfire. Video also shows a woman running for cover.
The victim who was killed was from Oxford, New Jersey. His name had not been released by authorities as of early Sunday evening.
“What I’m saying (is) just be patient with what’s going on and just keep moving on. That’s it,” Jose said.
More video from the scene shows injured people on the ground.
“A lot of gunshots, a lot of shots, people. He shot the guy. He shot the guy,” another man told News 4. “People scream and people was crying.”
Two of the injured were in critical condition as of Sunday evening. The third survivor also remains hospitalized, but their condition is not clear.
Paterson officials tell News 4 that most of the victims are believed to be in their 20’s, but one is 13-years-old.
The investigation into what led to the shooting continued Sunday night, with no details released about who may have opened fire.
