The streets of New Jersey roared to life in the middle of the night as police chased after a team of luxury car thieves behind the wheel of a $250,000 purple Lamborghini.
Surveillance video at MoeModz, a car customization shop in Elmwood Park, appears to show a pair of thieves break a window before getting inside, swiping the keys, and racing off with the pricey SUV. The team was quick: video captured around 3 a.m. Monday shows them in and out in one minute.
Police were quick to track down the car, thanks to an AirTag left in the vehicle by the store’s owner. Officers chased after the Lamborghini, which reportedly reached speeds of 100 mph on the Garden State Parkway.
The Lamborghini thieves made it about 15 miles to Hillside where police managed to lay down a spike strip to slow down the car. Neighbors said they woke up to the sound of a helicopter overhead and police dogs roaming the streets looking for the crew that ditched the SUV.
Police said a total of four people were in custody hours after the entire incident unfolded. What each was being charged with was not immediately known.
There was some damage done to the car from the chase and spike stripe.
