NYC schools calendar released for 2026-27: See first day, last day, holidays

When is the first day of school for NYC schools next academic year? The last day? The calendar is out.

Day 1 is Thursday, Sept. 10. The first days off, those associated with the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, come a few weeks later (Rosh Hashanah is over a weekend this year). Vacation schedules are set.

And the last day of school is on a Monday? No doubt that one will come up for debate.

Another key reminder: The “no snow day” concept that emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic is here to stay. That means lots of snow might mean no in-person school, but it doesn’t mean “no school.”

Under Mayor Zohran Mamdani, though, kids got a little reprieve with the last storm.
