Ticketmaster says it has canceled thousands of illegally obtained tickets for Harry Styles’ upcoming Madison Square Garden residency after identifying a network of scalpers using fake identities and multiple accounts to evade purchase limits.
Saumil Mehta, Global President of Ticketmaster, announced the action in a statement outlining how the company uncovered the scheme and why the tickets are now being re‑released to fans at their original prices. Mehta, who joined the company earlier this year, said the scalpers targeted the lowest‑priced and most in‑demand seats with the intention of reselling them at significant markups.
According to Ticketmaster, none of the canceled tickets had been transferred to fans and no legitimate fan accounts were affected. Purchases made directly through Ticketmaster remain valid as do any tickets already transferred or resold through the platform. The cancellations apply only to the New York City residency.
The original ticket prices, set by Styles and his team, were designed to keep the shows accessible. Ticketmaster released the breakdown to showcase the impact of scalping on lower‑priced seats:
- 19% priced at $50
- 77% under $95
- 100% under $130, including fees
Mehta said the company has recently taken similar action on other major tours as part of a broader effort to identify fraudulent activity, enforce ticket limits and permanently ban accounts that violate the rules. He noted that while Ticketmaster blocks most scalpers before purchases occur, fraud tactics continue to evolve.
The reclaimed tickets will be made available again at face value with Ticketmaster coordinating the release alongside Styles’ team. Fans will receive additional details on how to request the newly available seats.
Mehta said he and his team will continue answering questions publicly as part of a push for greater transparency in the ticketing process.
