A 16-year-old was shot and killed in an East New York, Brooklyn bodega Friday afternoon, police said.
Marquise Byfield was gunned down on Ashford St. Employees who witnessed the shooting are in shock.
“Too young, too young. They’re 16-years-old,” said the bodega’s owner, who identified himself as “Gamal,” as he lamented the tragedy. “Too young to have guns. Too young to have the knife.”
That owner tells NBC New York that the victim and suspect were fighting when they entered the store. “He stopped pulling the knife. The other one’s scared because he was trying to stab him. So the other one shot him,” Gamal said. “One (employee) lay down in the deli. The next one will lay down by the cashier.”
Byfield was shot at least twice and died at a hospital. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
In another case of gun violence, the New York Police Dept. arrested a man for the killing of a teenager in Jamaica, Queens. Zahir Davis, 18, was taken into custody Friday night after he landed back in New York City. Police say Davis fled to the island of Jamaica after officials say he shot and killed Jaden Pierre, 15.
It happened last week on a basketball court at Roy Wilkins Park near Merrick Blvd. and Baisley Blvd. Police say Davis, who is from Brooklyn, is now facing a murder charge in the April 16 shooting.
“Davis fled to Jamaica following the shooting and was arrested immediately when he landed back in NYC last night,” Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch wrote in a social media post.
