Andy Cohen issued a rare political statement at the end of Monday night’s (Jan. 26) episode of Watch What Happens Live.
Following the killing of ICU nurse Alex Pretti over the weekend, Cohen closed out the episode by calling out federal immigration agents for “executing” American citizens and the Trump administration for “lying” about it.
“I want to address the horrific events unfolding in Minneapolis,” Cohen said. “On Saturday, three weeks after the killing of unarmed Renee Good, 37-year-old ICU nurse Alex Pretti was holding his iPhone, exercising his constitutional right to protest, when he was murdered in broad daylight by ICE officials.”
“He was a licensed gun owner with a gun that was not drawn while ICE agents fired off at least 10 shots as he laid there on the ground,” Cohen added.
In a video recorded by bystanders, ICE agents can be seen violently pushing a woman to the ground. When Pretti—who was also recording the interaction—appeared to jump in to her defense, he was pepper-sprayed and tackled to the ground by the agents. While the gun he was legally carrying in a holster was seemingly apprehended by ICE before he was fatally shot, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem claimed Pretti was “brandishing” a weapon with intent to “inflict harm” (videos show that he was actually holding his iPhone), per BBC.
“I’ve seen a lot of gaslighting on the Housewives, and that is all fun and games, but we need to believe what we’re seeing with our own eyes,” Cohen said on WWHL. “Our government is allowing anonymous masked agents to execute its own citizens and then lying about it. Also, if these are paid protesters, as we’re being told, show us the receipts — even one receipt.”
“This issue is not left versus right. This isn’t even about immigration reform, which the nation wants,” Cohen continued. “We all have to decide if we want to live in a society in which our government kills citizens and then tells us not to believe what we are seeing with our own eyes. I know that that is not the America that I believe in or any of us want. Everyone, please stay safe out there. Minneapolis, we love you.”
Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
