Another draft-day trade for Bears, who jump to pick Georgia Tech DT Jordan van den Berg in Round 6

The Bears finally made a move on their defensive line, trading up Saturday to get Georgia Tech defensive tackle Jordan van den Berg in the sixth round with the No. 213 overall pick. They sent both of their seventh-round picks, Nos. 239 and 241 overall, to the Bills for the selection. That would end the draft for the Bears unless they make a deal to get additional picks.

Van den Berg, 24, was born in Johannesburg and moved to the U.S. at 10. He began his college career as a walk-on at Iowa Western, then transferred to Penn State and eventually Georgia Tech. He had 44 tackles last season, including 11 for loss.

Even with the Bears’ need to improve on the defensive line, it’ll be a tough path for van den Berg to get a spot on the depth chart. Grady Jarrett and Gervon Dexter are the starting defensive tackles, with veteran Neville Gallimore and others behind them.
