An arrest has been made in the slayings of two men that happened an hour apart during linked carjackings earlier this month in Lake View and Bronzeville, according to a source.
No charges have been announced for the person held, an 18-year-old South Side man, according to a source.
Darwin Tirado, 22, and Damon Kellum, 45, were killed about an hour apart in the Feb. 11th attacks, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and police.
Tirado was in them 700 block of West Waveland Avenue sitting inside of a parked car having a conversation with a 38-year-old man after the two had departed a nearby tavern when two assailants attacked them, killing Tirado and fleeing in his car, police reports said. The 38-year-old was not injured.
About an an hour later and 12 miles away in the Bronzeville neighborhood, Kellum was gunned down in the 3700 block of South Lake Park Avenue and the Tirado’s car was found nearby, police reports said.
The two assailants allegedly committed at least two additional attempted carjackings after the killings on the same day, police said.
Area 1 and Area 3 detectives are investigating.
