Detectives continue to look for witnesses and any video evidence after a 16-year-old boy was found shot in the head in the backseat of a stolen car riddled with bullets in the South Chicago neighborhood Tuesday night.
A security officer flagged down a police officer to tell them about an apparently abandoned Hyundai Elantra, which was reported stolen and was still running in the 8600 block of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive about 8:30 p.m., according to police report.
Inside officers found the unidentified boy in the back seat, shot in the head, according to the report, which said the car had “multiple bullet strikes.”
The boy was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center.
Officers learned there was a call of shots fired and criminal damage to property in the 8600 block of South Drexel Avenue. When police got there, they found several vehicles hit by gunfire and a “large amount of blood in the street,” the report said.
No arrests have been made.
Area 2 detectives are investigating.
