OAKLAND – Two bores of the Caldecott Tunnel were closed Christmas Eve due to a “storm-related electrical emergency,” according to the California Department of Transportation.
As of 7 p.m., eastbound Bore 1 and westbound Bore 3 were closed. Caltrans said traffic is still flowing in both directions through westbound Bore 2 and eastbound Bore 4.
There is no estimated time for a full reopening, but “crews are actively working to resolve the issue as quickly and safely as possible,” Caltrans said. Motorists are advised to expect delays and allow extra time for their commute or use alternate routes.
Caltrans plans to share updates about the closure on its X page. Motorists may also call 800-427-7623.
